Nobody has become a master guitarist over night, and chances are nobody ever will. We all must learn the basics first. It all starts with the positioning of your right hand. The right hand should be placed near the bottom of your bass, and your right-thumb should be resting on the side of one of the pickups.
Now whenever you want to play a string do not move your hand from its position. Now you need to use your first finger to pull the string properly and then you need to pluck it. Then, release the string and hit your thumb by that finger. Also place your thumb and first finger on the adjacent strings.
If you want to move from one string to another high string then use your second finger while first finger should continue doing the same. Or sometimes when you need to play some close notes then use your thumb and first finger simultaneously. Sometimes for complicated chords and notation you need to use your third finger as well, but as a beginner you must practice with two fingers initially then gradually you will master the art.
